About the event

The local Japanese community invite you to enjoy Japanese culture through their performances, workshops, and food at Japan Day. Behold Taiko drums performances and Judo demonstrations. Join in Bon-odori Japanese folkdance.  Learn hands-on in workshops including a Tea ceremony, Origami, Japanese Calligraphy, Language Exchange, Sushi Workshop, Tanabata Wishing Trees, Yukata Costume experience, Anime sketch club, and more. Relish the taste of Japan! 

Treble Court: Tea ceremony (Gisborne Volunteer Centre); Origami (outside Artemis Games); Tanabata Wishing Tree (Outside Haututu); Yukata Costume Experience (Outside the plant shop); Anime Sketch Club (outside Atlas Comics and Collectibles); Gisborne District Sister City (Outside Harcourts)

Library: Sushi Workshop (Mahutonga/Southern Cross meeting room); Calligraphy, Language Exchange (young adult section)

Food: Yoko sushi (ex-café space)l Japanese Sweets (ex-café space)
