Te Aratia Walkway, Whangawehi – Kinikini Road, Mahia Walk with GCTC [M]
Time & Location
24 Sept 2023, 8:30 am
Gisborne, New Zealand
About the event
We walk from the Whangawehi estuary and carpark upstream to a hut/shelter, then through pine forest to Kinikini Road. Because this is a “there and back” walk, one group could start from Kinikini Road and one fromWhangawehi Estuary and do a “key swap” at the hut.
The project to restore WhangawehiStream was led by the WhangawehiCatchment Management Group, a community initiative including Marae, landowners, and the regional council. Since 2014, 250 000 native trees have been planted in the catchment, 150 ha of riparian margins retired, and 30 ha of bush blocks protected.
Meet at 8.30am.
Cost: $15.
