About the event
Directed by Ross Whitaker, Beat the Lotto follows the unbelievable true story of Stefan Klincewicz — a mathematician, stamp collector, and big thinker who became convinced he could crack Ireland’s National Lottery back in 1992. With a syndicate of equally determined characters, he set out to buy every single ticket combination, sparking nationwide fascination and no small amount of controversy.
Whitaker shapes this stranger-than-fiction chapter of Irish history into a gripping, good-humoured thriller, capturing the rising tension as lottery officials began to realise something was afoot. Through sharp interviews and rich archival footage, the film offers a window back into 1990s Ireland and the kind of audacious scheme that could only come from someone willing to test the limits of the system.
