About the event

Directed by Carolina Markowicz, Charcoal tells the story of a family in São Paulo’s countryside who accept a mysterious guest into their home, only to discover he’s a wanted Argentine drug lord. With their house his new-found hideout, the family must learn how to live with a dangerous criminal while keeping up the illusion of an unchanged routine to their neighbours.

★★★★ "Markowicz maintains a tight grip on the tone, keeping it just on the biting point between black comedy and agonising suspense." - The Guardian

★★★★ "The performances are note-perfect, the tension consistent." - The Times  Portuguese with English subtitles
