City Centre Catalyst Initiatives Project Update

Trust Tairāwhiti, in partnership with Gisborne District Council and Rongowhakaata Iwi Trust, and with the help of Urbanismplus, sustainability-based urban design consultants, are leading and funding this project to capture the communities' ideas and aspirations to help inform the City Centre Catalyst Initiatives Project. The project aims to identify a series of catalyst initiatives that will help revitalise Gisborne’s city centre and lead to further development. It focuses on initiatives that align with existing plans and policies and can be progressed quickly by working with private and public land and building owners and developers.

Last year, community engagement events were held. A Project Control Group (PCG), comprised of representatives from the Trust, GDC and Rongowhakaata, are reviewing all community and specialist input to identify a shortlist of initiatives to progress with.
