Hand-Coloured: Photography's Parallel Universe

Hand-Coloured: Photograph's Parallel Universe, 1850s-2012 is an exhibition of over 100 images showing at the Tairawhiti Museum until 24 November. It charts the history and development of this largely ignored aspect of photography and is in three parts: Portraiture, Landscape and Achievement & Display. It's a selected blending of the Museum's own collection and that of a substantial private collection, and is the first time an institution in Aotearoa/New Zealand has devoted a substantial exhibition to this intriguing and often surprising subject. There is an associated and comprehensive 78-page, fully-illustrated publication retailing for $40, all proceeds going to the Museum.
