About the event
Starting 2 October as part of the 2025 Aotearoa French Film Festival, Holy Cow is a heartfelt debut feature from director Louise Courvoisier. Winner of the Cannes Youth Prize and two César Awards, this coming-of-age story is set in France’s picturesque Jura region, famed for its Comté cheese.
The film follows carefree 18-year-old Totone, whose world is turned upside down when he suddenly becomes guardian to his younger sister Claire after a family tragedy. Struggling to cope, he hatches a daring plan to honour his family’s cheesemaking legacy and compete for a €30,000 prize despite knowing nothing about making cheese.
With moving performances from its young cast, Holy Cow is a tender ode to resilience, community, and love.
