Winner of over 100 international awards and seen by more than 65 million people worldwide, the musical phenomenon Les Misérables is an epic story of the survival of the human spirit. Based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel, it features one of the most memorable scores of all time.
In nineteenth-century France, Jean Valjean is released from 19 years of unjust imprisonment, only to find mistrust and mistreatment awaiting him. Breaking his parole in the hope of starting anew, he begins a lifelong struggle for redemption while being relentlessly pursued by Inspector Javert, who cannot believe Valjean is capable of change. Against the backdrop of the Paris student uprising of 1832, Javert must confront his own ideals when Valjean spares his life.
Grand, emotional, and uplifting, this locally cast and produced production of Les Misérables promises the wow factor as one of the biggest musical theatre events ever staged in Gisborne.
