About the event
The community is warmly invited to gather for the Matariki Remembrance Service on Wednesday, 8 July at 5 pm, held at the Hospice Tairāwhiti building on Ormond Road. Together, attendees and their whānau will share a meaningful space for remembrance, connection, and aroha.
Matariki, the Māori New Year, is a time for reflection, planning and preparation for the year ahead, while also giving thanks for the abundance of the natural world. It is also a time to remember loved ones who have passed to reflect on who they were and the impact they had, and in doing so, honour them.
Within the Matariki cluster, Pōhutukawa is the star of remembrance, guiding reflections on those no longer with us. This annual service offers a safe and supportive environment to pause, reflect, and cherish the memories of those who have been lost.
