About the event
A reflective new exhibition has opened in Tairāwhiti, blending art and wellbeing with quiet strength.
My Opal Heart is the debut solo show by Gisborne-based artist Amanda Rutherford, now showing at Matawhero Art Gallery.
The exhibition brings together abstract works created over the past five years, shaped by personal experience and Rutherford’s journey into counselling.
Inspired by themes of healing and self-worth, the title piece draws on the shifting colours of an opal, a reminder of the beauty found in our own unique layers.
Layered, intuitive, and richly textured, each piece reflects Rutherford’s belief that art is essentially a space for reflection, feeling, and human connection.
