About the event
This intimate documentary offers a moving tribute to the life and legacy of one of Australia and Aotearoa’s most beloved satirists, John Clarke, told through the eyes of his daughter, filmmaker Lorin Clarke.
While John Clarke was famously private in public, at home he was open, thoughtful, and deeply reflective. Through a remarkable series of recorded father–daughter conversations, the film traces his lifelong resistance to authority back to childhood, explores his controversial move from New Zealand to Australia in 1977, and opens a window into four decades of sharp, influential work in entertainment.
Drawing from a rich television archive, personal anecdotes, stories from international comedy greats, and more than 200 boxes of letters and creative material, this is a portrait layered with warmth, wit, and quiet insight. At its heart, the film is a daughter’s gift offering her father back to the audiences who admired him.
