About the event
This Tairāwhiti Arts Festival Te Ara i Whiti brings together a group of artists who have created newly commissioned sculptural installations in response to the kaupapa – ‘O mātou tūmanako’ ‘our dreams’.
Now in its seventh year, Te Ara i Whiti is an interactive visual arts experience primarily composed of illuminated installations and sculptural works that celebrate contemporary design and connections to people and place.
"‘O mātou tūmanako’ is the overarching theme of this year’s exhibition, and while the artworks each speak of the dreams and aspirations of the artists for their communities, they are also a prompt for us all to take the time to pause and think about our collective future and what we dream of for each other." - Curator Melanie Tangaere Baldwin
