Te Tiriti Workshop

Te Tiriti o Waitangi is a vital component of New Zealand’s constitution, the debate about just what this constitutes as alive as ever. This workshop unpicks the historical interpretation of the treaty over time and explores the historical circumstances of the New Zealander signatories. 

Returned to its historical context, rather than a limited license to colonise, framed within a tired debate over twin authorities (kawanatanga katoa and te tino rangatiratanga), Te Tiriti o Waitangi emerges as something else entirely: a blueprint for tribal nationhood.
