Tuamotu (Sponge Bay Island)

Join the Gisborne Canoe and Tramping Club for a low tide (11:30am) visit to Tuamotu. The group will depart from the end of the road at Tawararo (Kaiti Beach), around the sand and rocky shoreline, with some boulder-hopping sections and reef walking. Be ready for wet feet, and potentially wet everything, depending on the swell of the waves.  Old sand shoes or sandals for reef crossing is recommended. The group will spend half an hour on the island, before walking back across the reef.  You can enjoy your lunch back on the beach, before returning to the cars.

Difficulty level = Moderate
