About the event

During Hospice Awareness Week 2026, the Hospice Tairāwhiti team warmly invites the community to take part in Remembrance Star Weaving sessions at HB Williams Memorial Library.

Running Monday to Friday from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, these relaxed, hands-on sessions offer a gentle space to pause, reflect, and connect during the day.

Guided by the Hospice Tairāwhiti team, attendees can learn to weave remembrance stars, making one or many to keep, or to dedicate to a special Matariki installation on Peel Street.

All materials are provided, with a $5 koha helping to cover costs. There is also the opportunity to write a tag in memory of a loved one, to accompany each star.

These heartfelt dedications will be honoured at the Matariki Remembrance Service on Wednesday 8 July at 5 pm, held at the Hospice Tairāwhiti building on Ormond Road.

Together with whānau, the community will gather in a moment…
